His major interests include the characterization of post-translationally modified proteins and metabolic profiles in humans as response elements upon exposure to toxicants (pesticides, heavy metals), intervention protocols with nutritional factors (vitamins, natural products, functional foods) and as indicators of chronic disease states(Alzheimer's, cancer, cardiovascular disease) Essential to these investigations is the development and validation of advanced technologies in the proteomics and metabonomic fields primarily involving the use of hyphenated

techniques based on multi-dimensional chromatography interfaced with mass spectrometry.

His research efforts have resulted in the publication of over 15 scientific publications and over 25 presentations at scientific meetings.

He is a member of the American Society of Mass Spectrometry, the American Chemical Society, and the Association of Official Analytical Chemists.

Dr. Spiros D. Garbis completed his PhD (Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology) and post-doctoral work at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at the University of Illinois.
His dissertation work involved the investigation of ADMET properties (Absorption,
Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicology) of stable-isotope labeled folates in humans. Dr. Spiros D. Garbis has also worked as a Forensic Chemist for the State of Illinois primarily involved in the analysis of drug residues and their metabolites in biological fluids.
